From Kampala to Lagos: Singer Daily Ug Prepares Next Chapter of His Music Career

Ugandan singer and songwriter Lukumani Kaweesi, popularly known as Daily Ug, has completed an intensive recording camp in Nigeria as he prepares to release a new Extended Play (EP) expected to hit digital music platforms in the coming weeks.

The Kampala-based artiste, known for hit songs such as Carol and Santiago, travelled to Lagos alongside a team comprising his manager, personal sound engineer, video creative director and a representative from his record label, Physco Records.

According to sources close to the project, the team spent 12 days in Lagos working from a professional studio complex in Lekki, where recording sessions often stretched from late afternoon until the early hours of the morning.

"We went there to work, not to sightsee," a close associate revealed. "Lukumani was in the booth every single night. He wanted to prove that a Ugandan artist can hold his own in the biggest music market on the continent."

The upcoming EP, fully funded by Physco Records, is expected to showcase a blend of Daily Ug's signature melodic storytelling and contemporary Afro-pop influences inspired by the Nigerian music scene.

Sources familiar with the project say every track on the EP was produced, mixed or engineered by Nigerian music professionals. The production team reportedly included producers who have previously contributed to projects involving leading Nigerian artists, a mastering engineer linked to a major Lagos-based independent label, and a session guitarist who has toured with members of Burna Boy's live band.

Industry insiders say the decision to record the entire project with Nigerian producers was deliberate, allowing the singer to explore new sounds while maintaining his unique musical identity.

"The beats hit differently," one engineer involved in the sessions said. "But his voice? That's all Uganda. You can't fake that warmth."

One of the most anticipated aspects of the project is a collaboration with a Nigerian female artist whose identity remains undisclosed. Sources describe her as a fast-rising performer with a significant social media following and growing influence within the Afro-pop scene.

The collaborative track was reportedly recorded over two nights in Victoria Island, Lagos, and will be accompanied by a music video in which the singer makes a cameo appearance.

"There was natural chemistry in the studio," a member of the recording team shared. "They fed off each other's energy. The song is romantic but not predictable—it will surprise fans of Carol and Boyfriend."

Beyond the collaboration, the EP will feature several solo tracks highlighting Daily Ug's versatility, ranging from emotional mid-tempo songs to upbeat dancefloor records.

The Lagos trip also provided an opportunity to shoot visuals for two songs from the project. One video features a rooftop performance filmed at sunset in Lekki Phase 1 with the Lagos skyline as a backdrop, while another was shot in an industrial warehouse setting featuring neon lighting, smoke effects and choreographed dance sequences.

The Nigerian collaborator is expected to appear in the second video.

Post-production work is currently underway in Kampala, with both videos scheduled for release shortly after the EP becomes available on major streaming platforms.

The project marks one of Daily Ug's most ambitious undertakings to date as he seeks to expand his audience beyond Uganda and strengthen his presence in the wider African music market.
